Discrediting SSRIs?

It may sound too cynical, but the point must be made that the recent hand-wringing over deception in clinical trials reported in the July 16 issue may be just yet another round of deception. SSRIs are running out of patent protections, and so it must be time to dishonor them.
Perhaps the latest “healthy skepticism” and “soul searching” are honest in intent. More likely they constitute another sham to get us out of the habit of prescribing SSRIs for newer, fancier medications and to build our faith that medical research is conducted and monitored for the most part by respectable people whose primary interest is to feed us truth.
