Psychiatrists Reveal Their Artistic Side

The 36th APA Art Exhibit took place in Atlanta in conjunction with APA's 2005 annual meeting in Atlanta in May. It was a superbly challenging effort to set up a small exhibit in such a professional manner, thus allowing for a smooth understanding—or lack thereof—of the artist's intended message.
Aydogan Ugur, M.D. (left), and William Alvarez, M.D., discuss who is more knowledgeable about love, since both their poems had the same title:“ What Is Love?” Alvarez conceded.
The display was meticulously nurtured by exhibitors and volunteers and attracted a considerable number of visitors. Some of the entries stood out as classic pieces of museum quality, while others contrasted surreal elements with the divine and the spiritual.

The APA Art Association offers an opportunity to exist in the daily world of obligations and also to land in the midst of the mystic and exotic through a painting, poem, sculpture, or photograph.
New officers were elected at the APA Art Association's business meeting. William Alvarez, M.D., was elected president. Wilma Rosen, M.D., remains the newsletter editor. Linda Logsdon, M.D., is treasurer, and Margot Fass, M.D., and I are the coordinators for next year's exhibit in Toronto.
All APA members and their spouses or significant others are invited to exhibit their artwork at the Toronto meeting. In addition, staff of APA and the Canadian Psychiatric Association will be invited to exhibit their art as well.
Membership in the APA Art Association is open to APA members and their spouses or significant others. Further information on membership is available by contacting me at P.O. Box 14449, Long Beach, Calif. 90853-4449 or [email protected].
