The Borderline Personality Disorder Resource Center, which is affiliated with New York-Presbyterian Hospital, disseminates information about borderline personality disorder, including statistics on prevalence rates. Among those statistics:
•
Approximately 10 million Americans, or 2 percent of the general population, have borderline personality disorder.
•
Between 75 percent and 90 percent of people diagnosed with borderline personality disorder are women.
•
Ten percent of psychiatric outpatients and 20 percent of psychiatric inpatients are diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
