Compendium Describes Thousands of Addiction-Treatment Resources

Detailed descriptions of services offered and contact information for more than 11,000 community-based, addiction-focused, health care facilities across the United States are featured in the newly updated National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Treatment Programs 2007.
The free directory is a product of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
Included in the directory is an inventory of public and private substance abuse programs in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories. The programs listed are licensed, certified, or otherwise recognized as offering quality care by state government or other substance abuse treatment credentialing bodies.
“The directory,” notes a SAMHSA press release, “is designed to quickly provide the reader with important information on levels of care and types of facilities, including those with programs for adolescents, persons with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders, individuals who have HIV/AIDS, and pregnant women.”
Each program listing also features information such as whether special language or translation services are provided, the range of health care clinicians available, and the costs and forms of payment that are accepted.
The National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Treatment Programs 2007, complements SAMHSA's Web-based Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator. As an online tool, the treatment facility locator offers users“ searchable” roadmaps to the nearest treatment facilities.
Information about ordering the new directory is posted at<http://ncadistore.samhsa.gov/catalog/productDetails.aspx?ProductID=17684>. It can also be ordered by phone at (877) 726-4227 by requesting inventory number SMA07-4290. The Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator can be accessed at<http://findtreatment.samhsa.gov>.
