K. Lynne Moritz, M.D. (left), president of the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA), poses with Psychiatric News Senior Staff Writer Joan Arehart-Treichel after she was presented with a Special Recognition Award as part of APsaA's Award for Excellence in Journalism in 2006. She received the award at APsaA's winter meeting in New York City.
According to Dean Stein, APsaA's executive director, the organization's journalism awards are usually reserved for journalists who write for the public. “However,” he wrote in a letter announcing her selection,“ we felt that Joan's reporting has been stellar and has done much to raise the visibility of psychoanalysis among readers of Psychiatric News.
