Nominations Invited

APA is inviting nominations for two awards that recognize psychiatrists who have contributed to child and adolescent psychiatry. The awards will be presented at APA's 2009 annual meeting May 16 to 21 in San Francisco. The deadline for both nominations is September 22.
The Blanche F. Ittleson Award for Research in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is given to a psychiatrist or a group of psychiatric investigators for the published results of research in child and adolescent psychiatry that have resulted in, or promise to lead to, a significant advance in promoting the mental health of children. Results of the applicant's research must have been published within five years prior to nomination or officially accepted for publication in the near future.
The award includes a $2,000 prize and plaque. Nominations must include six copies of the research being nominated, a cover letter, and the nominee's current vitae of the nominee.
The Agnes Purcell McGavin Award for Distinguished Career Achievement is given to a child and adolescent psychiatrist who has contributed to advancing the field of child and adolescent psychiatry in activities including teaching, research, writing, clinical care, advocacy, and policy. The award includes a $1,500 prize and a plaque.
Nominations must include a letter from an APA member detailing how the nominee's career has contributed to child and adolescent psychiatry and the nominee's current curriculum vitae.
Nominations for the Ittleson award should be mailed to Blanche F. Ittleson Award Selection Committee, Office of Children's Affairs, APA, 1000 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 1825, Arlington, Va. 22209. Nominations for the McGavin award should be mailed to the Agnes Purcell McGavin Awards Committee, Office of Children's Affairs, APA, 1000 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 1825, Arlington, Va. 22209.
