National GAINS Center for People With Co-Occurring Disorders in the Criminal Justice System—www.prainc.com/gains/The GAINS center is operated by Policy Research, Inc., of Delmar, New York, in collaboration with the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute, with sponsorship of several federal agencies, including the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and the Center for Mental Health Services. The GAINS center gathers and disseminates information about effective mental health and substance abuse services for people with co-occurring disorders who come in contact with the criminal justice system. The center's Web site offers several free publications, including summaries of key treatment issues and the elements of an effective jail diversion program, a fact sheet on the prevalence of co-occurring disorders in the criminal justice system, and full-text papers detailing screening and assessment approaches and intervention strategies.
