Abstract

The authors discuss various Western interpretations of Morita therapy, a Japanese method of treating neurosis. They approach the divergences of opinion through five topics, including the relationship of Morita therapy with Zen Buddhism and its emphasis on bed rest and work therapy. Their conclusion is that personal and social background and research setting influence differing understandings of Morita therapy.
