Abstract

A theoretical point of view is presented which emphasizes the effects of psychic trauma on the organization of memory, drives, and affects. Using illustrative material from a case of father-daughter incest, the usefulness of this point of view for understanding pathogenesis and the process of psychotherapeutic change is demonstrated.
