Abstract

This article describes a model for the outpatient treatment of adults at risk for major mental illness who live with parents or a spouse. In this model the clinician establishes a clearly delineated framework for treatment that primarily focuses upon the therapist-patient relationship, while concurrently sustaining a working alliance with the patient's family. The author identifies principles and techniques for implementing the model.
