Suicidal Behavior in Borderline Patients: Diagnosis and Psychotherapeutic Considerations

Abstract

The differential diagnosis of chronic suicidal and parasuicidal behavior in borderline patients is reviewed. Essential psychodynamics of these behaviors are explored, especially the psychopathology of unconscious hatred. The psychotherapy centers on the transformation of this hatred into aggressive transference patterns and their working through protected by a firm treatment structure.
