Do You Know How to Respond in a Police Crisis?

For this year’s meeting, APA is partnering with the Community Research Foundation, the police departments of San Diego and La Mesa, and San Diego’s Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT) to design a unique learning lab on handling a police crisis involving an individual who might be mentally ill. Following overviews on the innovative PERT program and how police are trained to handle mental health situations, attendees will be able to take part in a series of live-action activities. Among them are practicing communication skills in media training exercises and roleplaying crisis scenarios with law enforcement and in a virtual simulation. Advance registration is required; the cost is $69. Those who have already registered for the meeting can return to the registration portal and sign up for the session.
