Foundation Fundraiser to Benefit Research, Education Programs

The American Psychiatric Foundation will host its 2006 annual benefit, whose theme is “Toronto Tapestry,” from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the Royal Ontario Museum.
Participants will enjoy an international buffet of Asian and Canadian cuisine, access to the museum's first-floor galleries, live music, and the 2006 presentation of the Awards for Advancing Minority Mental Health.
Several galleries will be open for viewing. The exhibits in the“ Gallery of Canada: First Peoples” offer more than 1,000 artifacts, which provide a cultural context for Canada's earliest societies revealing the economic and social forces that influenced their art. In addition, Chinese art, architecture, and artifacts are exhibited in four new galleries. Highlights include objects spanning almost 7,000 years of Chinese history, a Ming tomb, a corner of a Chinese Imperial Palace building, large sculptures, and Chinese temple art.
“The foundation invites APA members and annual meeting attendees to our 2006 annual benefit,” said Altha Stewart, M.D., president of the foundation. “Advanced ticket sales and support indicate that this event will be a great success in raising recognition and funding for our mission.”
All proceeds support the foundation's grant program, research funding, and awards that advance public understanding that mental illnesses are real and treatable.
Tickets for “Toronto Tapestry” are $125 and may be purchased by phone at (703) 907-8512, online at<www.psychfoundation.org>, or by sending a check to the American Psychiatric Foundation, 1000 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 1825, Arlington, Va. 22209.
