Brief Psychotherapy with Children: Process of Therapy

Publication: American Journal of Psychiatry

Abstract

Brief psychotherapy with children has not achieved the same acceptance as this treatment modality with adults. The authors conducted a project, reported previously, in which they compared treatment outcome following brief (eight-visit maximum) psychotherapy with that of longer-term treatment; a one-year follow-up had shown similar results following both forms of treatment. In this paper the therapeutic techniques are analyzed and the content of brief psychotherapy with children is detailed.
